Main Ingredients of Rose Tone Up Cream:
It is an antioxidant produced in the skin cells. However, it declines due to poor nutrition, stress and environmental toxins (1).
It plays a major role in brightening your skin and decreasing melanin levels. Many dermatologists use Glutathione in their practise during skin therapies (2).
The comforting thing about this anti-oxidant is that it’s 100% safe to use because it contains ZERO free radicals (that could damage skin). You’ll notice all your skin impurities cleansed and having a toned up complexion.
This ingredient is found in plant based sources like blueberries, cranberries, bearberry and pears. Your body transforms Arbutin into glucose and hydroquinone (3).
In most skin whitening creams on the market they directly use synthetic hydroquinone and that can lead to many negative side-effects. However, many dermatologists consider Arbutin as the natural cousin of synthetic hydroquinone (4).
Arbutin slows down the production of dark pigmentation and the reason is the process of tyrosinase, which is the melanin production when skin stimulated by the sun.
It’s also called Vitamin B3 and it has a synergistic effect with other vitamins to enhance skin tone, reduce fine lines and wrinkles (5).
Many reputable skin care brands use it because it has the ability to protect skin from environmental damage and repair signs of ageing.
Western Rose Water (70%)
Rose water is considered one of the best-acting substances for skin cleanser. It promotes emotional balance and uplifts the self. Your skin will feel more radiant and youthful looking (6).
It is also effective in hydrating the skin from deep within and balance the skin's PH level.
If you are looking to regulate the production of skin pigment then Vitamin B12 must be included in your daily intake.
It’s proven to prevent hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Many women without knowing can have Vitamin B12 deficiency which can cause a number of symptoms, pale, dull and easily wrinkled skin are the common ones.
When To Apply Tone Up Cream?
You can apply the tone up cream as the last step of your skincare routine.
How Most Skin Brightening Creams Works?
The whole point skin brightening cream was get rid of blemishes, uneven skin tone and dark spots by suppressing melanin.
What is Melanin you ask?
It’s responsible for giving you the skin color you have. The more melanin you have the more you get darker.
Our skin has few layers the one that creates our outer skin layer is called the basal layer. In that outer layer, there is a cells called Melanocytes.
These cells are the ones that has the amounts of melanin we see in our skin.
However, the whole point of all of this is to know which element is responsible for Melanin production. In that context, it’s an enzyme found in melanocyte called Tyrosinase.
Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, blemishes or just darker skin is simply caused by this enzyme.
So what does skin brightening creams do about this?
Well, you guessed it, it inhibits tyrosinase enzyme! Which is the root cause of all of this.
Good skin lightening creams: reduces blemishes, lightens discolouration, eliminates pigmentation and evens skin tone.
The Brightening Ingredients:
I am always careful about which ingredients are included in my skin care routine. When it comes to skin lightening products here are the ingredients you go for and avoid.
- Kojic Acid
- Vitamin C
Note: Glutathione, Arbutin & Vitamin C are included in Tone Up Cream by Some By Mi.
Hydroquinone (this is not recommended ingredient; we will talk about it in the next section).
Why we advise against Hydroquinone brightening creams?
If you have had any previous experience with skin brightening products and it irritated you, it’s because most likely it contained hydroquinone.
In New Zealand, hydroquinone is registered as a Pharmacy Only medicine in creams containing hydroquinone in concentrations up to 2%.
It’s a potent ingredient that harshly decreases the amount of melanin in skin.
For the last 20 years almost all lightening skin care products contained hydroquinone. And the harsh side-effects were something everyone had to deal with.
The problem is hydroquinone isn’t for everyone. Many dealt with dry & itchy skin and constant redness. And what makes it worse is that it takes quite a while for these side-effects to fade away.
It depends on your skin reactions and how much you can tolerate it.
But that’s nothing compared to what you are about to be reading!
One possible side effect is Exogenous Ochronosis, which is a skin disorder that could potentially leave blue-black spots on your skin, especially if you are of African descent.
Due to its toxicity and potential side effects the European community banned its use in cosmetics, and limited its availability to prescriptions. In the US the FDA announced in 2006 that it could potentially cause cancer.
So I’m not sure why would anybody risk buying a hydroquinone-based cream at all!
The good news is, there were amazing recent developments in skin brightening products. And they fixed this issue by adding other hydroquinone alternatives such as: Glutathione, Arbutin and Retinol.
And it turned out great and people just loved the results without any negative side-effects. For that reason, Tone Up Cream By Some By Mi got our top list of recommendations for brightening skin and reducing pigments.
